In May 1998, a museum was opened to showcase photographs, documents, and various exhibits that reflect the lives of Japanese internees in Uzbekistan. The museum also serves as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
In 2023, a new museum building was constructed, which is planned to become a tourist attraction for visitors from Japan and other countries.
Many years ago, hundreds of Japanese prisoners of war lived on the territory of Uzbekistan. They actively participated in the construction of important national economic facilities, such as factories, plants, and residential buildings.
The museum’s unique exhibition consists of five sections, carefully assembled piece by piece. It includes photographs, historical references, classified documents from that time, clothing, and other artifacts.
It is worth noting that in the fall of 2016, the Japanese government published a list of foreign individuals awarded the Imperial Order. Among the recipients was the museum’s founder, Jalil Sultanov.
